Thursday Thoughts

February 28th, 2013

We're just working on editing pictures on Lightroom right now and I feel like I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable with the exposure and the photo temperature. I got to edit John's tattoo picture and made it more exposed and I also edited some photos we took inside the room and practiced editing the photo temperature on that too. I noticed in the photos we took inside that they looked really yellowish and I adjusted the temperature and they looked a little bluer. I'm beginning to understand how all this works! Here are the photographs I edited:

Anna took this photo; An abandoned sign in the parking lot

I took this photo; Our reflection using a water puddle

Thursday Thoughts

February 21st, 2013

We just received our next assignment in photography, Architecture & Urban. I'm pretty excited for this project because we get to go shoot out in the city and I love the city! Mr. Long explained to us the different requirements and he told us, in detail, what he wants us to do. We get to shoot so many different things and even people, strangers too. I'm thinking about shooting at Downtown Portland and Downtown Gresham too because the feel of the cities are similar in a way. I like how small Gresham is, making it feel like a close community, and the space of Portland will give me tons of possibilities. This week we also learned about architecture, urban, cityscape, and street categories. I'm mostly excited to shoot urban just because every city is different. They're like the city's tattoos, you can find so many things hidden and every city has a different mark. That's all I have for now.

Thursday Thoughts

February 14th, 2013

This week was a pretty hands on week in our class. We got to do group exercises and they were pretty fun! Today we went out on a class trip to Starbucks and we got to shoot along the way. We met a cool guy named John, and he had interesting stories to tell. He also had a tattoo on his right arm of a cartoon and Joelle got a picture of it. He was a photographer as well and conversed with us and talked about what he likes to shoot. I thought this walk was a good way to apply what we're learning in class into the "real" world. It puts what we know into actions, which, in my opinion, is a much more fun way to learn. I'm starting to understand the histogram on Lightroom more and about architectural photographing. I also learned a special thing today, sometimes not all strangers are bad. We have so much to discover and experience.

Shooting Exercise and Edit - Architectural

February 13th, 2013
I went to shoot photos with Anna for our exercise and I feel like we did pretty well! We decided to go out infront and take a photo of whatever caught our eye. The first thing we saw was a firetruck. Then, we started wondering off to the gates of the school and see what we could find. We found a lot of stuff we weren't aware of and we also started looking a closer look at everyday things. We shot a great variety of photos. We came inside and started to import all the photos by clicking import, selecting our photos, renaming them, and making sure they were on copy. Then, we chose what photos we wanted to edit and we began. I always start by cropping and straightening. I move on to checking exposure and contrast. I work on the shadows and highlights and always keep on looking at the histogram and see the movements fo it. I always finish my editing process by adjusting specific colors and how much they stand out (if they're in color). That's what I did for this exercise!

I took this photo along the fence and it was already like this.

Thursday Thoughts

January 31st, 2013

Today we went out to shoot and Mr. Long talked to us about the difference in lines when shooting nature vs. architecture.  We talked about parallel lines and how important a unique shot is. We also tried out the white balance and

In photography today we got to go out and shoot in groups outside. Mr. Long wanted us to shoot something out of the ordinary. This really tests your creativity considering the fact that he only had us shoot on school grounds and wanted us to shoot something interesting. It made me realize that I don't pay much attention to my surroundings. I didn't know the school had little memorial signs for people who have passed away. It's located near the back of the parking  lot and there I also found some super bright green moss. I finally began to understand what the exposure compensation does. it gives you the control to shoot darker or brighter, and it's really cool! That's what we practiced and talked about today.
